About Our Company
Gealy Memorials was founded by Richard B. Gealy in 1956 in Hermitage, Pennsylvania. Richard Gealy acquired his interest in the monument business in 1942 at the age of 17. There was a man by the name of Don Groft who was a journeyman granite cutter who rented a room in the Gealy family home. Don travelled to different monument dealers in the area with a portable sandblast room mounted on a trailer. Richard thus developed an aptitude for the art of granite craftsmanship.
After serving 3 years in the Navy, Richard apprenticed under Warren Shelly at Shelly memorials in Greenville, Pennsylvania. He then went into business for himself on East State Street in Hermitage.
Gealy Memorials is a third-generation family-owned company. Shelly Memorials, where Richard Gealy started in the business, was acquired by the Gealy family in 2016. We take pride in creating quality memorials at a fair price. All the design work is done on location. Our family believes that memorialization is a way to commemorate the lives of our loved ones. The Gealy family has strived to work closely with each individual family to help preserve your memories for over 82 years.
We are familiar with all of the local cemeteries’ rules and regulations. We work with the area churches, caretakers, and funeral directors to meet your family’s needs. From the traditional monument to custom shapes, designs, and family mausoleums, we implement the same care, compassion, and attention to detail passed down from Richard Gealy to Larry and Betty Gealy, and now to their daughter Michelle Gealy-Arthur.
